congratulating Donald Trump: Hasina praises Trump’s “extraordinary leadership qualities” and declares her “commitment to working together again” in a letter posted on social media by the Awami League.
New Delhi: congratulating Donald Trump: In her congratulations greeting to the new US President on Wednesday, Sheikh Hasina, who calls herself the “Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” praised Donald Trump’s “extraordinary leadership qualities.”
Hasina hoped that the “bilateral ties between the friendly countries of Bangladesh and the United States of America” would be further reinforced in a letter signed by the Awami League’s office secretary and shared on the party’s verified social media accounts.
Donald J. Trump has been congratulated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the president of the Bangladesh Awami League, on his victory as the 47th President of the United States of America. In the letter, Sheikh Hasina recalls fondly her many encounters and conversations with Melania Trump and Donald J. Trump while serving as prime minister.
“She pledged to collaborate once more to further the bilateral and multilateral interests of both nations,” the statement continued.
Amid anti-government rallies, Hasina left Bangladesh for India after being removed from office in August. A student movement demanding that 30 percent of public sector jobs be reserved for the families of veterans of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War sparked the large-scale protests.
The Awami League government eliminated the veteran quota in 2018. There was a summer of unhappiness after the Bangladesh High Court reinstated the quota in June of this year.

After Hasina was removed, Waker-Uz-Zaman, the chief general of the Bangladesh Army, declared the establishment of an interim administration. The government eventually appointed economist and Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus as its chief adviser.
Last month, ThePrint exclusively revealed that Hasina has been residing in a safe residence in the Lutyens Bungalow Zone of New Delhi for more than two months, according to arrangements made by the Indian government.
Yunus wrote a letter of congratulations to Trump, sharing his “heartfelt felicitations.”
The United States and Bangladesh have a long history of friendship and cooperation in a wide range of fields of shared interest. Throughout your prior stint in office, the relationship grew deeper and wider,” Yunus said.
“I look forward to working together to further strengthen our partnership and foster sustainable development,” the chief adviser continued. As our two friendly nations strive to explore additional channels of engagement, I am convinced that the possibilities are boundless.
Although her son refuted the accusations, Hasina had allegedly said that the US, under its present government headed by Joe Biden, was responsible for her removal from Bangladesh. In the past two months, the US has denied the accusation several times.
On the fringes of the United Nations Summit of the Future, Yunus met with Biden in September, though, and the US president congratulated the Nobel laureate on his appointment as the “head of the interim government.”
