Mumbai Halts Delhi Winning Streak with a 12-Run Victory; Three Runouts in a Single Over Mark IPL Drama
In a thrilling IPL clash at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mumbai Indians snapped Delhi Capitals’ unbeaten run with a 12-run victory on Sunday. After winning the toss, Delhi opted to bowl first, but Mumbai posted a formidable 205/5 in their 20 overs, powered by Tilak Varma’s gritty half-century.
Chasing the target, Delhi faltered at 193, crumbling in the 19th over, where three batsmen were run out—an IPL rarity seen only once before, back in 2008, when Mumbai faced a similar fate.
Mumbai’s Batting Sets the Tone
Mumbai’s innings kicked off with a steady 47-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. Delhi’s Vipraaj Nigam broke the partnership, dismissing Rohit for 18—his best score this season. Suryakumar Yadav then took charge, stitching a 28-run stand with Rickelton and a 60-run partnership with Tilak Varma. Surya smashed 40 off 23 balls, including five fours and two sixes, while Rickelton contributed 41. Tilak’s 59 was the backbone of the innings, supported by Naman Dhir’s unbeaten 38.
Hardik Pandya, however, managed just 2 runs. For Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraaj Nigam claimed two wickets each, with Mukesh Kumar picking one.
Delhi’s Chase Derails Amid Chaos
Delhi’s pursuit of 206 started disastrously as Deepak Chahar struck on the first ball, removing Jake Fraser-McGurk. Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair steadied the ship with a superb 119-run stand for the second wicket. Nair was explosive, hammering 89 off 40 balls with 12 fours and five sixes, but his dismissal by Mitchell Santner sparked a collapse.

Porel fell for 33 to Karn Sharma, and Delhi’s middle order crumbled. KL Rahul (15), Axar Patel (9), and others couldn’t keep up the momentum. The 19th over turned chaotic with three runouts—sealing Delhi’s fate at 193. Karn Sharma led Mumbai’s bowling with 3 wickets, Santner took 2, while Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with one each.
Points Table Shake-Up
This defeat marked Delhi’s first loss of the season after four wins in five matches, pushing Axar Patel’s side to second place. Mumbai, with their second win in six games, climbed to seventh. Gujarat Titans now lead the standings.
A Historic Over : Mumbai Halts Delhi Winning Streak with a 12-Run Victory; Three Runouts in a Single Over Mark IPL Drama
The three runouts in the 19th over echoed a 2008 IPL match where Mumbai suffered the same fate. This dramatic moment, combined with Mumbai’s all-round performance, made it a night to remember for the five-time champions as they outplayed a formidable Delhi side.
