Ranchi: In front of a galaxy of INDIA bloc leaders, JMM leader Hemant Soren took the oath of office as Jharkhand’s 14th chief minister on Thursday in a lavish event.
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the chief ministerial oath to the 49-year-old tribal chieftain.
At a ceremony at Ranchi’s Morabadi Ground, where Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal were in attendance, the governor gave Soren the oath of office and secrecy.
Wearing a kurta and pajamas, Soren met the president of the JMM and his father, Shibu Soren, before taking the oath.
In the most recent assembly elections, Hemant Soren defeated Gamliyel Hembrom of the BJP by a margin of 39,791 votes, retaining the Barhait seat.
In the 81-member Jharkhand assembly, the JMM-led alliance easily won 56 seats, while the BJP-led NDA only held 24 seats.
