The Awadh Times, Agra: The health department has become alert after three cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) spread in China were found in India. Do not panic, HMPV is causing cold, cough and pneumonia. Children as well as the elderly, patients suffering from serious diseases whose immunity is weak are at a higher risk of infection.
Arrangements for testing and treatment of HMPV have been made in SN. Along with this, the number of the control room has also been released. HMPV infection has been found in three children in Gujarat and Karnataka. These children have no history of going abroad.
CMO Dr. Arun Srivastava said that some cases of HMPV have been found across the country, including three children. There is no need to panic, arrangements for testing have been made in the Virology Lab of SN Medical College. HMPV is not fatal
Dr Mridul Chaturvedi, head of the medicine department of SN Medical College, said that according to the reports so far, HMPV is not fatal. Only the elderly and patients suffering from serious diseases including cancer and diabetes are at risk of infection. There is no medicine for it, treatment is being done on the basis of symptoms.
It is not as fatal as Covid, get treatment for cold and cough in children
Dr. GV Singh, Chairman of Respiratory Department of SN, said that all the cases of HMPV found so far do not have the same lethality as Covid, in which even a healthy person was at risk of life if infected. People with weak immunity are at greater risk.
Dr. Neeraj Yadav, Chairman of Pediatrics Department of SN Medical College, said that if children have cold, flu and high fever, consult a doctor and get treatment. Viral pneumonia is more common in winter. But, children are recovering if they take medicines on time.
HMPV infection spread in 2001, tested like Covid
Dr. Ankur Goyal, Chairman of Microbiology Department of SN, said that HMPV infection is not new, the infection has spread in 2001.
It is also tested by RTPCR by taking secretions from the mouth and nose like Covid. There is a facility for testing in the virology lab. There is a risk of spreading infection through micro-droplets emitted while coughing and sneezing and coming in contact with the patient.
People coming from outside will also be monitored
The health department has also alerted the rapid response team. With the cases increasing rapidly across the country, people coming from outside will also be monitored. If they have respiratory diseases, they will be tested and treated.
